Summerhills Stud

The SUMMERHILLS Stud

Started in 2000 on the Moors, when Mrs.Anne Came purchase some land near Cator Gate.

Previously the Stud was breeding British Riding Ponies, using blood lines started forty years before, and keeping the ponies in country.

The foundation mare for the Hill Pony side of the stud, was ZELLIONS DAMSON, a liver chesnut mare bought from Mrs.Freda Wilkinson, by her stallion ZELLIONS IMP. Damson was out of ZELLIONS PUFFA, a mare by ELPHICKS HUNTERS MOON, ( full brother to ELPHICKS HONEY BEE a Pony of The Year,)who was purchased by Mrs Came, as a foal,in the seventies.

HUNTERS MOON ran on Spitchwick for two seasons, and on Mrs.Wilkinson’s Newtake before that. He left several beautiful mares, and his descendants are still on Spitchwick today.

The skewbald pony stallion pictured is SUMMERHILLS SUPRISE, a grandson of ELPHICKS HUNTERS MOON, and a brother to SUMMERHILLS SWIFT who is the herd stallion to the BARRAMOOR herd. He is the only Dartmoor Hill Pony stallion graded with the BRITISH SKEWBALD AND PIEBALD SOCIETY. He runs on Spitchwick, and his foals will be advertised for sale, and sold at the Drift Sales in October.
